Application of Titanium Plate

Titanium plate ( www.chtitanium.com/Titanium) has the advantages of high strength, low density, good mechanical properties, toughness and good corrosion resistance. However, the process performance of the titanium plate is poor, and its cutting process is difficult. In the hot working condition, impurities such as hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon and the like are easily absorbed. The wear resistance of titanium plate is poor, and its production process is complicated. The industrial production of titanium began in 1948, due to the development of the aviation industry, the titanium industry is growing at an average annual rate of about 8%. At present, the annual output of titanium plate processing materials in the world has reached more than 40,000 tons, and the number of titanium plate grades is nearly 30. The most widely used titanium plates are Ti-6Al-4V (TC4), Ti-5Al-2.5Sn (TA7) and industrial pure titanium (TA1, TA2 and TA3).

Titanium plates are mainly used to make engine compressor components of aircraft, followed by rocket, missile and high-speed aircraft structural parts. In the mid-1960s, titanium and its alloys were used in general industries, such as electrodes used in electrolytic industries, condensers used in power stations, heaters used in oil refining and desalination, and environmental pollution control devices.

Titanium plate is a new important structural material used in the aerospace industry. Its specific gravity, strength and service temperature are between that of aluminum and steel, but its specific strength (ratio of tensile strength to density) is high and it has excellent seawater resistance. Corrosion properties and ultra-low temperature properties. In the United States in 1950, it was used for the first time on the F-84 fighter-bomber as a non-bearing member such as a rear fuselage insulation panel, an air hood, and a tail hood. In the 1960s, the use of titanium plates began to move from the rear fuselage to the middle fuselage, partially replacing the structural steel to make the bulkhead.
